Sip, Hussein Chalayan Spring 2012: Served by the designer himself dressed as a waiter, the champagne flutes were embedded with miniature wireless cameras, which projected real time video of the models’ mouths on a large stage-mounted screen, hence the title of the collection. “What I wanted to do was to have the models drink champagne like they would do in a gallery, and look at the screen like they’re actually looking at something but all they see is themselves, but themselves sipping because there is a secret camera inside the glass. I thought it would be this idea of self-image, and that’s essentially what it’s about.”

‘Modern Avant-Garde’ - click to read‘In this post I will attempt to look at how important it is for modern fashion to be wearable - although the recession is tightening its grip on industry in general, the fashion industry continues to thrive. The question I wish to explore is whether or not there is room for more avant-garde design in the commercial sphere - the main goal is to sell the collections, meaning that designers choosing to explore less practical visions are now taking a larger risk than ever.’
